CAMPING VILLAGE ASSISI

Greenery, peace and tranquillity make this campsite a choice destination for nature-lovers and those who seek true relaxation away from the hustle and bustle. The campsite lies within 30,000 m² of mature Maritime Pine woodland, with trees over 50 years old. It is on flat land, with grassy ground in the shade of the pine trees. Free of obstacles, it is easily accessible for camper vans, caravans, trailers, buses and vehicles of all sizes. The site is located along the S.S.147 road which connects Perugia and Assisi. It is 3½ km from Assisi and a shuttle service runs to and from the town every day including Sundays. This campsite is ideal for:
Families with children, who can enjoy the wide open spaces in safety; Elderly people or those with reduced mobility, who will find facilities specifically for their use and will appreciate the lack of obstacles; Those who travel with their animal friends, as a large area is reserved for them; Those who like to travel on two wheels, who can park their bikes in front of each building. Youth clubs, school or religious groups, Scouts, summer activity camps and other groups, who can make full use of the recreation zones and social areas for games.
The Camping Village enjoys a superb view of Assisi, with the magnificent 13th century Basilica di San Francesco and the Sacred Convent in the foreground. These are built of the pink stone which is characteristic of Assisi and which is extracted from the quarries of Mount Subasio, above the town. World Peace Capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Assisi is awash with art and culture and has a mystical atmosphere which can be felt especially in the sacred places linked with the life of St. Francis, patron saint of Italy and of Nature.

History and culture

Assisi, (from the Latin word Asisium), was founded about 1000 years before Christ when the Umbrians came down from central-eastern Europe and occupied the Tiber Valley, spreading out all the way to the Adriatic shores. The Umbrians, who according to Pliny the Elder were the most ancient Italic population, dominated the region for more than five hundred years until they were absorbed by the Etruscans. The Romans, with the battle of Sentium in the year 295 B.C., took control of the area, marking the beginning of an era of great prosperity for Assisi. The city was made into a municipality and various constructions were built – many of which are still visible today – including defence walls, a forum, an amphitheatre and the great Temple of Minerva. In 50 B.C. the great Latin poet named Sextus Propertius was born there..... [ Read more ]
